After sharing a couple of teasers and even a song, the makers of Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa dropped its trailer on Monday. Also The trailer starts with a face-off between Ajay and Tabu’s characters as the latter assigns him a job, without his consent. While he’s on his way back to meet his estranged daughter, he finds himself getting deeper into the world of crime. With too much packed in the 2:30 minutes trailer, it takes time to make sense of the action and drama.

The trailer introduces the primary plot of the movie while also showcasing many of the action-packed stunts that will performed as Ajay Devgn tries to hold off the criminals as the police get back up. Tabu portrays the wounded police officer who needs Ajay’s assistance to survive.

The targeted attack on the police officers appears to take place over the course of one night in the majority of the movie. In exchange for his assistance in stopping the smugglers, Tabu, who is aware of Bholaa’s risky past as a criminal, offers him the chance to meet his young daughter. IPS Diana Joseph (Tabu), through an exhilarating truck chasing scene, manages to catch cocaine worth 1000s of crores. Which was transported by Sikka Gang’s Nithari (Vineet Kumar) & his younger/crazier brother Ashwathama (Deepak Dobriyal). Ashwathama goes crazy as it’s not just the drugs captured by the police but also his brother. Diana escapes Ashwathama’s trap of got intoxicated at a higher rank official’s retirement party. Still, many of her colleagues drugged at the risk of losing a life if not treated in a couple of hours.

The trouble with keeping this kind of action sustainable over two hours forty minutes is evident every time the film goes off the main track. A flashback featuring Bholaa’s past, which includes a romance (Amala Paul), slows things down, as do the numerous instances when his distraught daughter shown. Also, because this is a Devgn enterprise, the hero has to have enough time to flex solo. Unlike Karthi, whose ‘aam aadmi’ feels like one of us, Devgn’s Bholaa mythologised as an indestructible superhero. The challenge of making each set-piece different is clear when, for the nth time, Bholaa is alone, on the road, facing a swarm of killers. And it all starts looking the same; the greed to extend action sequences never works out well.

Not a frame-by-frame remake of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Kaithi (2019), Bholaa rests completely on its high-octane action and Ajay- Tabu chemistry to make you forgive its wafer-thin plot. Producer-director Ajay Devgn dominates each and every frame but this cannot called his finest performance. Not his fault as the main focus is on the ‘maar dhaad’ sequences which make for most of the two and half hours of its run time.

Ajay Devgn, who plays the lead role in ‘Bholaa’ and also directs the film, has done an excellent job. The way his expressions evince calmness yet warfare hasn’t changed since the 90s. Bholaa carries the utmost strength and resilience of Lord Shiva, who looks at the death in its eyes, grabs its neck, shatters it, and leaves it lifeless. To his credit, the fight choreography is unique and mind-boggling. I particularly freaked out on the bikers’ gang on a rampage as well as Devgn’s handiwork with the trident. The entire film takes place in one night where this gang keeps attacking the truck driven by Devgn to get hold of these cops. One action piece after another follows with the emotional quotient provided in form of Bholaa’s kid daughter who he yearns to meet at the earliest. Bholaa’s backstory as well but it is never completed probably keeping a sequel in mind..

Of the cast, Ajay’s intensity is intact though the film requires him to emote less and kick more. Tabu is assuredly competent as the cop Diana Joseph who is a nemesis for the gangsters. They call her Daayan, haha!! Deepak Dobriyal is impressive in a meaty villainous role. Gajraj Rao is effective as ever but why has he been filmed in a perennial closeup!!! The gorgeous Amala Paul leaves her mark in a cameo. Aseem Bajaj’s cinematography is first-rate. The 3D effects are sparse and you can easily book a 2D ticket if you wish to go easy on your pocket. The sizzling hot item number featuring Raai Laxmi will appeal to the masses.

Being the only breadwinner in the family of five — his wife Pratime (Shahana Goswami), children Kartik (Prajwal Sahoo) and Purbi (Yuvika Brahma) and a bed-ridden ailing mother, Maai (Shantilata Padhy), Manas ends up signing up as a partner with a food delivery app called Zwigato – a cheeky blend of popular food delivery apps Zomato and Swiggy). He then manoeuvres his way to understand the tricks of the trade, trying to crack the complicated rating system, hoping to achieve daily delivery target, encountering difficult customers and sometimes, requesting for a selfie with them to earn that extra incentive.

Zwigato follows the same format as of other Art Films that falls under the category of contemporary cinema. Exploring the positive side, the movie is a success in dwelling audiences onto the seat of rider and explore their world. Kapil Sharma lies somewhere between being a complete miscast and nailing the character out of the park. His real-life backstory helps to connect with the innocence of Manas, but his ‘comedy master’ tag also proves to be a hindrance at times. More than the natural acting, at places, it feels like he’s pretending to act.

The performance is best on every node you can expect from the cast members be it the lead pair or the child actors who share brief screen space. Kapil Sharma as a middle class frustrated rider has given an applaudable performance, which is totally contrast from the actor’s actual persona of a comedian. The emotions well shown by him, and feels affectionate to viewers.

Beauty of this movie lies with its cinematography. The way frames picturized are raw in nature and showcases it in most authentic way as well as shown as realistic as it could be. Music in the background is a melody which used scarcely throughout the feature, which in my opinion should have played more significantly. Director Nandita Das picks the most relatable subject and weaves a compelling story around it that you can’t help but feel empathetic towards this section of the society, and understand that they are helpless that’s why they are laborers, and not the other way round.

The trailer video begins with Ranbir claiming that it is easy to enter a relationship now-a-days but difficult to get out of it and moves forward to a confusing tale of truths and lies in a relationship. The video has most of its scenes and song sequences at the beach. Halfway through the video, Shraddha is also seen reiterating the same dialogue on relationships and getting frustrated. And then there is Kriti Sanon, a hotshot lawyer for some reason who never sees the inside of a courtroom but does add some good-looking gloss to the tosh. . She flits in and out of the Jindal world as a potential match for their good-for-nothing son (the very same baby, originally Valmiki’s, now living the rich life). This poor brat, Raj, has so little to do after his foreign degree that he drives a toy car around the house.

There is a villain other than Valmiki (Paresh Rawal), and he is someone who wants to do some bad things using the Jindal cargo ships, which the Jindals absolutely won’t allow. It leaves this man, with a killer umbrella for a weapon and some good clothes and cars, very, very angry, and very, very snarly.

Shehzada, the Hindi remake of Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020), is a complete star vehicle for Kartik Aaryan. The film completely revolves around the actor, even neglecting other characters and storylines in favour of its lead. The actor is convincing enough in this old-fashioned tale of babies switched at birth and a motivation for revenge which exceeds everything. His character Bantu, however, is a charismatic, street smart young man, who rights every wrong that comes his way.

Trivikram Srinivas’ story remains to as mediocre as it was in the original which solely saved by the charm of the stylish Allu Arjun and blockbuster music. The film starts as a Tik-Tok video and remains to one sprinkled with songs that will also just trend on social media for as short as the attention span of today’s ‘reel-watching’ Audience. Rohit Dhawan’s screenplay also retains the same style as Trivikram Srinivas’ film.

This one also loses the motif of the character worshipping himself throughout but that somewhere acts as an anchor for Allu’s Bantu to be far more superior because of the charisma. Sanjay Leela Bhansai’s favorite Sudeep Chatterjee holds the camera along with Sanjay F. Gupta unfortunately to copy-paste even the angles from the original.

The antagonism in Shehzada comes from Bantu’s struggle to find out where he belongs. However, Paresh isn’t really portrayed as a ‘real’ villain, just a frustrated man. His deep-seated desire to see his son succeed and punish the son of his nemesis played up for laughs. The villain’s role instead handed to Sunny Hinduja’s Sarang, who becomes a plot contrivance to move the story along and give the rest of the characters something to bond over.
