Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001)

This multi-award-winning movie tells the story of the community of a small Indian village who play a game of cricket against their cruel British rulers, with their future at stake. Starring Aamir Khan and Raghuvir Yadav, the film is a fusion of genres, combining historical drama, sport, and musical elements, and was a huge hit with audiences and critics alike. Its power comes from the strength of the actors’ performances and the care taken to recreate period detail: from the locations to the use of sound effects, the India of the British-rule era is brought vibrantly to life.

When it comes to the cast, Sarah Ali Khan played the role of Rink very eloquently. The role of the Tamil lad he played is nowhere to be seen as odd. On occasion, the director spoke to the character in Tamil. As always Dhanush‌ performed his natural acting.

Saif Ali Khan struggled a bit to fill Bachchan’s shoes in it. Although the body language is completely different due to the 16-year-old jump, the accent sometimes looks artificial. Rani Mukherjee’s Vimmi is always a loud character, but this time it hurt me a lot because of its poor sketch. Unlike one or two real scenes, she is very loud very often. The first half of the movie is very sloppy and takes forever to set the ball rolling. When the second half starts to look a little better, it immediately loses grip. The scams that young couples are pulling are not so great

Varun V. Sharma loses the plot within the first 30 minutes of the film’s opening. The opening half-hour also remains floating due to the remaining external remnants of Part 1. You’re optimistic about the story revolving around it, but the more it goes on, the more the slippery slope increases. All told and done, Bunty Aur Bubbly 2 is a good idea to go down the drain due to poor narration. Another example of someone thinking of touching another classic to remake.
