Movie Review

Virupaksha movie perfectly creates the ambiance at the very beginning and keeps on adding layers as the story progresses. After a shocking interval, the second half slightly drops in pace as the various pieces of the jigsaw are put together, to finally pick pace in the pre climax sequence. The climax is impressive, though it clearly wants to shock and awe. In fact, that also led to a few people walking out of the theatre but this is an ending that is contrary to popular, established writing patterns.

Sai Dharam Tej toned down his mass mannerisms to come up with a realistic performance in his role for the film. He should complimented for doing so and at times, he even took a backseat and allowed the female lead Samyuktha Menon to take the centre stage. Sai Dharam Tej impressed with his sedate performance without going overboard. He looked realistic and natural on screen and showed good emotions and expressions. It is known that Virupaksha happens to be Sai Dharam Tej’s comeback film after the accident he met last year and he entertains his fans with his performance.

Director Karthik Varma Dandu who has written the story of the Telugu film Virupaksha, which has screenplay by Sukumar, builds the make-believe world of Rudravanam village diligently. When a series of eerie events unfold, I found myself wondering why a character should invite trouble by walking into the jungle at night or why another character crosses a line that is supposedly sacrosanct. An hour into the film, a particularly spooky incident sets the stage for the protagonist, played by Sai Dharam Tej, to begin a quest. Srinagendra Tangala’s production design and Shamdat Sainudeen’s cinematography help in giving the village an authentic look and most characters seem fit into that world.

Classic Indian Gambling Game

Teen Patti is arguably the most popular and practiced card game in India. It can be regarded as a simplified alternative of poker in India, also known as Poker of the subcontinent since it is most popular in the Indian subcontinent. Indian gambling games are slightly different from the Western ones, some of them are modified versions of their western counterparts and some are native classic Indian gambling game.

No matter by which name you recognize it, Teen Patti is such an interesting game to play. As it’s very much clear from the name, Teen Patti is played with 3 cards eachBoth the players are dealt 3 cards each, and the player having the highest hand wins.

What is the best strategy for betting in teen Patti:

There’s always a possibility that you might end up losing heavily in the game because after all it’s a game of odds and odds do not always favor you. We advise you to start easy with betting, place smaller bets in the beginning, and once you have secured some wins you can place risky bets.

How do we rank hands in Teen Patti

So now when we know that it is played with 3 cards each, obviously the one having the highest degree of cards will win. Below is how we decide who got the better cards:

Trail: the scenario when you have all 3 cards of the same denomination. For example 3 four’s. The highest trail is of three aces and the lowest of three twos. You must have seen people getting three aces in movies, but let me tell you, in real life, the odds of getting three aces are really low.

Straight Run: Having consecutive cards from the same suit without skipping a middle number is called a straight run. The highest is A-2-3, while the lowest straight run is 2-A-K. If your opponent is not having a trial or a straight run and even if you got the smallest straight run, you would win.

Normal Run: this is slightly easy to get because in this you need 3 consecutive cards not necessarily from the same suit. Here too the highest is A-2-3, while the lowest straight run is 2-A-K. For example, you get 2 of diamond, 3 of heart, and 4 of spade then it’s a normal run because cards are from different suits. It is ranked below straight run.

Color: as the name suggests, getting 3 cards of the same suit. In case both the players got 3 cards of the suit then the denomination of the cards is taken into consideration. The player having the card of highest denomination wins, if that is the same too then the card with the second-highest denomination is taken into consideration, and similarly the third card in case the second one is similar to. Though it’s a very rare possibility, still our job is to cite them down.

Pair: having not 3 but 2 cards of the same denomination, for example getting two 5’s and one K. The highest in this is AAK and the 222.

High card: don’t worry if you haven’t got the cards that fall in any of the above-mentioned categories, this is the most likely option in the game of Teen Patti. In this case, you’d receive all three cards of different denominations. Here the player having the highest denomination of cards wins. The highest possible denomination is A-K-J while the lowest possible is 5-3-2.

What do you usually look for in a David Dhawan-Govinda film? Mirch masala, no logic, and you expect it to be a fun film. It’s a complete David Dhawan film, so if you manage to leave behind the 8 grams in your head, you sure will enjoy Kunwara on the big screen. After two consecutive flops, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge and Chal Mere Bhai, which were both remakes of the previously released movies, David is back with a bang this time and Kunwara only underlines that fact! Below you can find Kunwara Movie Review.

This is Govinda and Urmila’s second film together after Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain. Yes, you are right, it’s again the smashing Urmila Matondkar who sure has a lot of glamour to offer in Kunwara.

Kunwara was shot in New Zealand where the story begins. Raju (Govinda) and Urmila (Urmila Matondkar) are the strangers who meet in New Zealand and despite of small fights they fall in love with each other. They fall in love and still don’t know about each other’s family.

Raju has to return to India for some reason and there saves a pregnant woman, Sharmila (Nagma), from committing suicide. She tells all his story to Raju that she was committing suicide because her lover refuses to marry her whose child is in her womb. In Sharmila’s typical family, there is her angry grandfather Vishwanath Pratap Singh (Kader Khan) and a Hitler-type Thakur Balraj Pratab Singh (Om Puri). Raju makes a plan for Sharmila to save her life but he actually didn’t knew what he was doing. The plan actually was that Raju decided to go home with her as her husband and then he will run away from there and therefore Sharmila could lead her life with her child in her parents’ home. He didn’t knew it will ruin his life and destroy his love.

Everything was good so far, suddenly a twist in the story when Raju came to know that Urmila is also a part of that typical family and is a daughter of Thakur Balraj Pratab Singh (Om Puri) and younger sister of Sharmila (confusing, isn’t it?). Then, Urmila thinks that he really is his sister’s husband who was flirting her in New Zealand.

If you are having a bad time or want to have fun, then go watch Kunwara on the big screen. Otherwise, you won’t lost much skipping this one. So what’s good in Kunwara? Well, there’s Govinda as Raju who gaves his 100% performance with his hillarious comedy which makes the film watch able and there’s sexy Urmila Matondkar with tight tops, pants, and skirts of course. There are also Johnny Lever and Kader Khan in some few moments. What else one wants in a good entertaining movie?

There’s a no great songs in the movie except that title song. In a typical Govinda film, audiences want different Bollywood songs with more masala than lyrics. Anu Malik could have done better than this like he did in Refugee, Josh and forthcoming Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega.

Kunwara will make you laugh and cry. But there’s always a happy ending in a David Dhawan type of film

A seasoned performance by both Aishwarya Rai and evergreen Anil Kapoor are probably the highest points of the latest film to hit Bollywood: Satish Kaushik’s Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hain.

A great story it is! The inviolate dignity of a rape victim and its recognition in the society.

Aishwarya and Anil Kapoor have displayed a seasoned performance of refreshingly mature lovers in the film.

Aishwarya seems to be blossoming with every new film she ventures into. After her ‘Woman of substance’ splendor in Hum Dil dDe Chuke Sanam and wonderful emotive playacting in Rajiv Menon’s Kandukondain Kandukondain, her role in this latest ‘Dil’ series has proved that Ash is definitely a shade above the best!

Aishwarya plays an unfortunate victim of rape who chooses not to throw herself in the nearest well. She instead displays quiet dignity and restrains. A rare sight in high-pitched Hindi cinema. She interprets Priti- the girl next door as ordinary and yet extraordinary. Somebody who picks up the pieces of her life and moves on. She also does the sacrifice act of sending the man she loves to his mom and the woman of her choice to marry

(Sonali Bendre) so as to protect his family from bad name.

Anil Kapoor has yet again proved his versatile evergreen talent in the film. He has more to give then a brawn and biceps show. He’s an actor with a greater sense of substance.

As expected the spotlight is taken quite a lot by Anil Kapoor who plays the angel in protecting Ash from the trials and tribulations she has to face in being a rape victim.

Had the direction been better, this amazing story could have had much more success than it seems to be bagging. But we still have to wait and watch before we determine the fate of Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai.

Ash is undoubtedly set to go places and Anil …well …he’s always on the move!

For all those movie buffs who needed a breath of fresh air from the Bombay film industry, its time for you to smile after a long time. Fiza is probably the saving grace of this year’s Bollywood season. Fiza belongs to the league of Mani Ratnam’s Bombay, Ramgopal Varma’s Satya or John Matthew Mathan’s Sarfrosh, in as much as it weaves solid, relevant fiction onto the canvas of reality. It is a depiction of the humanistic drama amidst communal/political and racial turmoil.

The scene is set in post-Mumbai riots. Like many others, the disastrous riots have had a strong impact on Nishatbi’s (Jaya Bachchan’s) happy household. Her son Amaan (Hrithik Roshan) disappears which is when the film’s equilibrium is shaken.

Mohammed draws a touching picture of how the devastated mother and daughter live each day hoping against hope that Amman will return. After waiting long enough for her brother in deep anguish, Fiza (Karisma Kapoor) takes it on her to search for her much-loved brother. And when Fiza finds her brother, she is only more traumatized to see who he has become. Amman has unwittingly got engulfed in the disruptive forces of the Mumbai riots and has joined hands with terrorism. Without any clichés, Mohammad has been careful in presenting the circumstances that go into the making of a terrorist.

Also, Watch:

What’s more impressive is the drawing up of the portrait of the political and media forces that control society, as discovered through the eyes of Fiza. A strong and blunt social statement has been made on the savage behavior on the streets and the kind of hollow hypocrisy that runs it.

Not that the film does not have its flaws. For instance, in a film, which has such an introspective story, commercial liberties were not really required. Aman’s Tandav sequence was a good watch but when put in the context of the film it was unnecessary. The Taandav was the preparation for the boy’s final murderous mission. Now, you definitely do not need to pump iron and take karate training when all you have to do at the end of it, is assassinate two corrupt ministers from a distance with a telescopic gun! Though it must be said that the Taandav and Sushmita’s dance sequence has been very helpful in bagging a larger audience. Also, Fiza has not been as original as Mohammad claimed it would be. Strong Shadows of the 80’s Hollywood (Missing, Mississippi burning) and 90’s Bollywood (Naseem and Bombay) are clearly a part of this film.

Admittedly though, the overt impact of Mani Ratnam’s style from Bombay in film making complemented well by Santosh Sivan’s camera in depicting riot scenes to the T have given Fiza its strong appeal.

Fiza has not only proved critic turned writer, Mohammad’s skill in filmmaking. (Though he has displayed lack in the plot of the story). It has had a lot to prove even in terms of the main characters, Karisma and Hrithik Roshan. The film is character-driven. It is about Karisma Kapoor proving that she is an actress of substance. It is about Hrithik making it a point to tell his audience that glitz is not the end of the world for him. Jaya Bachchan’s delightful face has lit up the screen no doubt and Manoj Bajpai’s twenty minutes short entry has left an impact not to be forgotten.

And last but not the least, Anu Malik’s music has imparted melodious dhuns to hum after you have watched the film, with his musical magic in Fiza

After ‘Indecent Proposal’ was released in India, everyone wanted to make a copy of the film. But nobody succeeded and ended up making a mockery of the concept. ‘Karobaar’ too is no different. Not at some comedy, but at the way, a good filmmaker like Rakesh Roshan has dealt with the subject, just because he had a producer who ran short of funds.

One should realize that this film was long overdue. The movie was almost complete after Karan Arjun and before Koyla. Eight years is too long a time for Rishi Kapoor to stay young.

Amar Saxena (Rishi Kapoor), who is an unemployed burden on his stepbrother and sister-in-law, meets Seema and falls in love with her and vice versa. Amar is incidentally studying law and has given his exams.

Suddenly he meets his old school buddy Rajiv Sinha (Anil Kapoor) and gets a job as a model. Don’t know what modeling assignments will they offer a 40-plus old man pretending to be half his age. Juhi Chawla rightly has a dialogue stating that “tum aur model”.

Anyway, when Rajiv who is a Casanova meets Seema, he feels the urge to possess her. So he takes her and Amar on a free ride to South Africa in his chartered plane without asking the poor guys whether they had passports. They roam around Sun City and Seema is maha-impressed by Rajiv’s wealth.

In an earlier scene, Rakesh Roshan, however, shows how vigilant the customs officials are at airports. So much for detail.

But Rajiv is snubbed and he vows to get back at her. Amar and Seema marry to escape his clutches. But Rajiv wants Seema and he troubles them to no extent by sending expensive gifts and demeaning Amar.

Amar breaks apart a car gifted by Rajiv, but on his way back home Amar has an accident and Seema needs money for his treatment. So she offers to sell herself to Rajiv to save Amar’s life. Rajiv has a change of heart at her love and gives her the money, but it ends up as a mistake as Amar disowns her and the baby in her womb.

Left with no option, Seema marries Rajiv and the child grows up and is framed in a smuggling case. When Amar sees the son, who ‘exactly’ looks like him, he realizes his folly. And helps catch the culprits at the end.

Fabulous locations and good experimental cinematography in patches could not salvage the film, which also had some decent performances. Anil Kapoor being the pick of the lot and giving a controlled performance. Juhi is okay and Rishi is fine. But the casting is ridiculous. Rishi Kapoor in no way looks like a twenty-year plus in Law College. He has a son old enough to be in college now.

The special effects guys should be sent abroad for training. Rishi Kapoor’s son who is being brought up by Anil Kapoor and Juhi has a face, which has been lifted from a film from his early days and superimposed on a body, which looks like Hrithik Roshan’s. The best part is when the eyes blink on an expressionless face. Why don’t they import some guys for such work if we have nitwits working at special effect studios?

If you have something better to do, give the film a miss. I have a decent proposal, play dandia instead

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Mission Kashmir is meticulously designed and shot, but also loses steam after the strong opening sequences. In a raid to nab a terrorist, cop Inayat Khan (Sanjay Dutt) accidentally shoots an innocent family. On the behest of his wife Neelima (Sonali Kulkarni), he brings the surviving child Altaf home. They have just lost their little son – a harrowing sequence – and give the traumatized Altaf a lot of love.

However, when Altaf discovers Khan is the man who killed his family, he runs away. Ten years later he returns as a terrorist (Hrithik Roshan) in the group of Afghan mercenary Hilal (Jackie Shroff), still hoping to kill Khan. Strangely a decade later, Khan is still in the same house in the same city with the same deputies!

Altaf’s childhood sweetheart Sufiya (Preity Zinta) is also around as a TV anchor, show producer, dancer rolled into one. The film then takes a very tedious and predictable course, with several implausible sequences – like the one in which Hilal leads Khan to a sensitive spot when there was absolutely no reason to. Also, Altaf’s all-consuming hate is wiped out with a two-minute lecture by Khan!

Chopra couldn’t resist the temptation of pretty, candy-floss vistas, so one hardly gets a sense of Kashmir as being a state under siege. How come a wanted terrorist gets around so easily, and how can he always reach the IG Police at all times without anyone thinking of tracing the calls to a house in the centre of town? Who are the three men in shadows planning the secret mission in Kashmir? Too many unanswered questions, too many pat assumptions.

Again the performers like Sanjay Dutt and Hrithik Roshan come to the rescue – they make the film worth watching. Jackie Shroff is given a menacing get-up, but both he and Sonali Kulkarni are miscast. Violence aches and love hurts – it’s a Hobson’s Choice situation, really!
.

Cast & Crew:

Some Love Stories…Live Forever… Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein is set in the artificial environ of a Gurukul (in an English castle!) droning on for over three-and-a-half hours over a conflict between discipline and love. Here you know the Mohabbatein Movie Review.

Narayan Shanker, the 55-year-old patriarch of the Gurukul believes in tradition and discipline and not in Mohabbat. Whoever said they couldn’t coexist, and did nobody inform him that love is a part of Indian tradition! His daughter Megha (Aishwarya Rai) had given up her life for love, but that hadn’t softened the man.

One doesn’t know what exactly is taught in this Gurukul, and why 20-somethings come to a place that is more as penitentiary than a college. Into this waltzes Raj Aryan (Shah Rukh Khan) with his violin and teaches the boys – three in particular – to rebel against the rules and go fall in love. So the three (Uday Chopra, Jugal Hansraj, Jimmy Shergill) chase their girls (Shamita Shetty, Kim Sharma, Preeti Jhangiani), while Narayan Shanker fumes. Frankly, one doesn’t know what the fuss is all about: what is wrong with discipline in an educational institution? And shouldn’t 20-year-olds be encouraged to study and build their careers instead of marrying the first person of the opposite sex they encounter! It’s all incredibly ridiculous, but to the writer-directors credit, some scenes are quite moving – like the Holi scene between Shanker and Aryan, the one in which a woman (Shefali) makes a plea on behalf for her young widowed sister-in-law.

Raj Aryan’s monologue towards the end in which he tells Narayan Shanker why he has lost also packs a powerful punch and Shah Rukh performs brilliantly in that scene. Amitabh Bachchan, though dressed in absurd black garb, simply towers above the rest. Without so much a twitching a muscle, with just the right look in his eyes, he walks off with the film.

The youngsters have a lot to learn from him and Shah Rukh Khan. Neither has to take his shirt off and flex his muscles to get attention!

More On Mohabbatein

It’s time for the romance Moguls, Yash Chopra, and family to give Bollywood a new Romantic love tale. But this time Aditya Chopra who is making a comeback to the silver screen after five years has a romantic with a twist!

The difference that Mohabbatein will make to the Chopras’ long list of love stories is the introduction of Shahrukh and Amitabh at the focal point of the film. The former believes in love and the latter who does not caught in a tussle between a three-in-one love story. Mohabbatein introduces Yash Chopra’s youngest son, Uday Chopra, besides being a celluloid host to a host of newcomers including Jugal Hansraj, Jimmy Shergill, Shamita Shetty, Kim Sharma, and Preeti Jhangiani.

Apparently, after Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was released, Aditya Chopra started work on Dil to Pagal Hai on papa’s adesh. Bored of loves stories, Aditya decided to work on a thriller but could not keep his mind off his ten-year-old Mohabbatein file. So he’s found the perfect compromise: no mushy tale of boy-meets-girl but a love story with a twist! All for the pyar of Mohabbatein!

Four years after Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Aditya Chopra is back with his new venture setting the screen ablaze, with the fiery combination of Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan. Aditya’s debut film was a long time ago, but Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge is still fresh in our memory. And now Aditya Chopra is all set for a Diwali dhamaka with a movie with a self-explanatory title and a formidable cast. Those who’ve heard snatches of the music by Jatin-Lalit are ecstatic. The film is complete and ready for Diwali 2000 release and has generated a lot of interest as it has Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai as the romantic lead. According to the trade, this is a safer and predictable casting than the one in Mansoor Khan’s Josh where the two played twins. However, the clash between Big B and King Khan is the highlight of Mohabbatein. Shefali Chaya also has a decent role in Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein, and that too as Amitabh Bachchan’s heroine in the film.

Mohabbatein has a campus backdrop and the film is set in a hostel in London. Narayan Shanker (Amitabh Bachchan), is a strict principal who will not tolerate any nonsense (read flirting, dating or romance) within the campus. Raj Aryan ( Shah Rukh Khan) is a young lecturer in the college, who’s immensely popular among the students, and who’s in love with Narayan’s daughter in the film, Aishwarya Rai. Aishwarya is dead and appears only in flashback sequences, we are made to believe. Enter six young students played by Jugal Hansraj, Jimmy Shergil, Shamita Shetty, Preeti Jhangiani, Uday Chopra and Kimi Sharma who are in love with each other. Till Shah Rukh Khan helps Amitabh Bachchan to realize what is love about and how he could see his lost daughter by believing in love and helps him forget his past agonies and in the process. This, along with the endeavors of his own daughter and her lover will finally melt the heart of the elderly principal. Running concurrent to this basic theme is also the story of three young couples in the college, whom Shah Rukh help in realizing their love by telling them about his past stories and about Aishwarya. The conflict of values amongst the three generations makes an interesting movie. And then, Narayan Shanker and Raj Aryan join hands together. Aditya Chopra is wrapping up Mohabbatein in at a breakneck speed. A very well-made film with emotions at a very high standard and outstanding performances such as Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan makes the film so extraordinary.
